We have witnessed all sort of political scandals in recent months from hob nobs to duck ponds but the latest one takes the biscuit! Today we have had the revelations that ex-cabinet ministers have been willing to act like 'cabs for hire' when it comes to lobbying on behalf of businesses to use their influence with their ex cabinet colleagues. Stephen Byers, the former transport minister say that he would charge between £3,000 and £5,000 per day for the work - nice money if you can get it but perhaps we are talking about moral corruption gone wrong. It reminded me of the story of Judas ... ... betraying Jesus into the hands of the Romans for thirty pieces of silver. Was Judas simply like Stephen Byers, acting as a cab for hire to the highest bidder? He too was suspended from the Jesus party, and he too went to the highest bidder... makes you wonder. But in modern day politics these are the guys that are meant to be running things. What kind of moral vacuum are we living in when political influence at the highest level is able to be bought so cheaply? When our members of parliament can afford to live in a house that has a moat that requires cleaning! Whatever happened to going into public life to help the public? The ordinary man or woman going into politics to change things for the better for the majority of people? As you look around the commons there cannot be that many people without titles, or directorships, or the likes. These are the people who we elect to look after our interests ... mmmmm? And finally, congratulations to David Cameron and his wife who are expecting a baby in September. I am certain all would wish them happiness following the death of their son last year. But his quote is brilliantly unbelievable. He said "The timing is obviously not absolutely ideal, but we were very keen to have another baby after Ivan died and sometimes it takes a while before the stork pops one down the chimney." A man who believes in the stork ... a prime minister .. an elected official .... really? In saying that I'm not convinced any of them are better than the others - I think we need to start again in the country!
